What it gives you
- a third off most standard and first class rail fares across Great Britain
- the same discount for one adult travelling with you
- it costs £20 for 1 year or £54 for 3 years, and is available as a digital railcard on your phone
Who can get one
You can apply if, for example, you:
- get PIP or DLA (any rate) or Attendance Allowance
- are registered sight impaired, or are deaf or use a hearing aid
- have epilepsy and have repeated attacks, or are not allowed to drive because of it
- buy or lease a vehicle through the Motability Scheme
- get certain war pension or armed forces payments
Changes in 2026
From 1 March 2026, you can also qualify if you have a Blue Badge, a disabled person's bus pass (or London Freedom Pass), cannot drive on medical grounds, or have no speech, along with some other groups.
A second phase from September 2026 extends eligibility to some people with long-term or fluctuating conditions and neurodivergent people whose condition makes train travel very difficult, using evidence from a health or other professional. Check the railcard website for the latest details.
How to apply
Apply on the Disabled Persons Railcard website and upload proof, such as your benefit award letter or Blue Badge.
