Our information is general, not advice

Our guides and self-checks give general information about health conditions and UK disability benefits. They are written in plain English to help you understand your options.

• They are not medical advice. Always talk to your GP or another qualified health professional about your own health. In an emergency, call 999.
• They are not legal or financial advice. For advice about your own situation, contact Citizens Advice, a welfare rights service or another qualified adviser.
• We are not part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the NHS, Social Security Scotland or any other government body.

Our self-checks give estimates only

Our PIP, Attendance Allowance and DLA self-checks give an estimate based on your answers and on the rules as we understand them.

• Only the DWP (or the relevant government body) can decide whether you get a benefit, and how much.
• The result depends on the answers you give. The DWP will make its own decision based on your claim form, evidence and any assessment.
• A result saying you may qualify does not mean you will. A result saying you may not qualify does not mean you should not claim.

Keeping our information accurate

We work hard to keep our information correct and up to date, and we check each page at least once a year. Benefit rules and rates change, and mistakes can happen. We cannot promise that everything is always complete, correct or current. Please check important facts with official sources, such as GOV.UK and the NHS.
