Cookie policy
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, so you will not see a cookie banner on our site. Here is exactly what we do use, and how to control it.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. Similar technology, like your browser's local storage, works in a similar way. The law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, or PECR) says websites must tell you about these and, in most cases, ask for your permission first.
Why there is no cookie banner
Since changes made by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, websites do not need your consent for storage that is strictly necessary for a service you ask for, or for some low-risk statistics, as long as you are told about them and can easily say no.
We only use technology that falls into these groups, so we do not need a banner. We do not use:
- advertising cookies
- cookies that track you across other websites
- social media tracking pixels
- tools that record your screen or mouse movements

These are all strictly necessary or are only created because you asked for them, so they do not need consent.
Visitor statistics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see how fast our pages load. It does not set cookies or use local storage, does not collect your IP address for tracking, and does not follow you to other websites. We only see totals.
We also do not load it if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal.

Our pages contain links to other websites, including GOV.UK, the NHS, charities and, where clearly labelled, shops through affiliate links. We do not place cookies for them on our site. If you visit those websites, they may use their own cookies, and their own cookie policies apply.
The Keystatic editor
The page at /keystatic is only used by the people who edit this website. It uses cookies to keep editors signed in. Visitors to our website never see or use it.
How to control cookies in your browser
You can block or delete cookies and stored data in your browser settings. Blocking our storage will not stop our website working, but you will not be able to save self-check answers.
