Broadband and phone social tariffs
Most big providers offer social tariffs: cheaper broadband and phone deals for people on means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit or Pension Credit, and some also accept PIP or other disability benefits. You can usually switch to a social tariff without paying to leave your current contract with the same provider. Ofcom keeps a list of providers and prices.
Free directory enquiries
If you cannot use a phone book because of a disability, such as sight loss or a physical disability, you can register for free directory enquiries on 195. Ask BT for a form, which needs signing by a GP or other professional.
Accessible phones and Relay UK
- Relay UK is free and lets you make calls using text if you are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech impairment.
- Most providers offer accessible bills and priority fault repair for disabled customers. Ask your provider.
TV licence
- Blind or severely sight impaired: you can get 50% off your TV licence.
- Aged 75 or over and get Pension Credit: you can get a free TV licence.
- Living in a care home: you may pay a reduced £7.50 licence through the home's scheme.
