Make your tablets part of your routine

Keep your tablets by your bed or toothbrush, and set a phone reminder. A weekly pill organiser can help you see if you have taken today's dose.

Tiredness

Tiredness can take a few months to improve after starting treatment. If it does not improve, see your GP. Pacing yourself, regular activity and a good sleep routine can all help.

Weight

Healthy eating and regular activity are the best ways to manage your weight. Levothyroxine brings your hormone levels back to normal, but taking extra does not help weight loss and can be harmful.

Mood and memory

Low mood and poor concentration often improve with treatment. If they do not, tell your GP. They could have another cause that can be treated.

Pregnancy

If you are planning a pregnancy, tell your GP. Your dose usually needs to go up as soon as you are pregnant, and you will need more frequent blood tests.

Support

The British Thyroid Foundation has free information and local support groups.
